I've recently been cast in a comedy show called "something outrageous" ...and it definitely is. I'm totally out of my comfort zone with this show, which I believe can be a good thing every now and then when you're an actor. I've been very busy within the last two years focusing on dramatic roles, most of them in film, so doing comedic work on a stage is a muscle I could surely exercise. There is something completely different between acting on stage and acting in films, and I think it's important for every actor keep themselves busy in both realms. The show goes up April 9th and I will be playing an array of different characters in true sketch comedy form. "Something Outrageous" is based on the shows that came out of Second City in Chicago, paying homage to the styles of commedia del arte, vaudeville, satire, musical theatre and clowning. It will be interesting to see how some of the older styles of comedy will fall upon on a modern audience. Because a lot of things about the show are already set before the actors even arrive, it gives the actors the challenge of having to almost work backwards. We start with the character's physicality, mannerisms, and voice, and then we must find the truth behind why they are the way they are. It's always funny to observe a person being silly, but it's the truth behind the facade that can really affect an audience on a different level. And let's face it, an audience is smart enough to tell if an actor is just "being funny." So I'm working on making these extreme characters into real people without losing the extreme, or the real.I will be alongside fellow actors:Aaron BallardGarrett DillJae MannMatt BoyceTania AsnesSomething Outrageous will be at the 45 st. Theatre between 8th and 9th avenue on April 9 at 9:30 pm. Tickets are $25, open bar.
